Rovio, the famous Angry Birds game creator announced the acquisition of Futuremark Game studio, today. Futuremark is one of the well accomplished 3DMark and PCMark benchmarks provider, which will allow its clients to do gaming performance tests across various operating systems. “They are an incredibly talented and experienced team, and we are thrilled to have them on board,” said Mikael Hed, Rovio Entertainment’s CEO. “Rovio’s success is founded on the excellence of our team, and Futuremark Games Studio is going to be a superb addition.”
Futuremark will continue to concentrate on their core business of professional benchmarking of 3D hardware and 3D games along with supporting the Rovio game developers team. According to Futuremark CEO, Jukka Mäkinen, ”Futuremark will now focus on supporting gamers and industry with 3DMark, our professional grade benchmark which, in a new version to be released later this year, will allow unified gaming performance comparison across operating systems and form factors for the first time.”
It was the Angry Birds creators second acquisition in the past year following the acquisition of animation studio Kombo (June, 2011). The deal wasn’t disclosed in numbers so far. The press release of the acquisition could be read here and for more discussion about this topic check here.
