Godaddy, which was a strong supporter of SOPA once, now opposes it because of a boycott happened in Reddid. A large number of customers started switching to other registrars and hosting services to teach some lessons to Godaddy, and it looks like Godaddy learned them too, but customers still streaming out of Godaddy.
Lately there were issues started raising in domain transfers, particularly from a large volume of customers (new) from Namecheap, regarding the delays and other issues. Namecheap who attracted a decent volume of Godaddy boycotter’s, because of their strong opposing message towards SOPA. Now, they pointed their fingers towards Godaddy, for the delay in domain transfers.
According to Namecheap, “GoDaddy appears to be returning incomplete WHOIS information to Namecheap, delaying the transfer process. This practice is against ICANN rules.”
“It’s a shame that GoDaddy feels they have to block their (former) customers from voting with their dollars. We can only guess that at GoDaddy, desperate times call for desperate measures.”, they added in their blog post. If you were the one who’s waiting for domain transfer to Namecheap from Godaddy, then rest assured, they were manually processing each and every request to make the process neat and fast.
