Today tt’s 29th December. yes, it is the day that I reported earlier that was going to-be ”move your domain day”, as announced by a Reddit user. Namecheap, who already enjoying much of the domain transfers for the past few days, now also encouraging the “move your domain day”. Namecheap came up with a post in their site, pledging full support to SOPA, while discussing a bit about why SOPA needs to be opposed. Also in that post, Namecheap mentioned a statement from its CEO, Richard Kirkendall, as saying

While we at Namecheap firmly believe in intellectual property rights, SOPA is like detonating a nuclear bomb on the internet when only a surgical strike is necessary. This legislation has the potential to harm the way everyone uses the Internet and to undermine the system itself. At Namecheap, we believe having a free and open Internet is the only option that will continue the legacy of innovation and openess that stands for everything we all value in our modern society.

Before the end of the post, as usual they emphasized about moving the domains from Godaddy to Namecheap and offering transfers below cost ($6.99* per transfer) using the coupon code SOPASucks. Also, Namecheap is donating $1 to Electronic Frontier Foundation with every domain transfer[update: within a few hours Namecheap raised $386  for EEF, means 386 transfers - stay tuned for more updates, Update moved to the ed of this post], to help EEF to have legal fight against SOPA, PROTECT-IP, and other overbroad and ill-considered legislation. While the story goes in this way, Godaddy again made a wrong move to delay or make the domain transfer process complex by demanding photo id for new domain transfer applications.

Although, the Godaddy’s requirement of photo ID is officially not confirmed, a twitter user, exposed a screen shot of the application, demanding photo ID, which is attached below.

UPDATE: Total money raised by Namecheap for EEF reached $23766 (that means totally 23766 domain transfers happened from Godaddy to Namecheap on “Dump Godaddy Day”).
